On the 19th of March, 2019, Mr. Koyote Suzuki, the General Manager of Suzuki Motor Corporation in Africa and The Middle East payed an official visit to the President of Ghana to announce their partnership with Toyota and CFAO to start producing and distributing cars in Ghana. Mr. Koyote said that Suzuki produces about 1.8 million vehicles in India alone. He stated, “My mission is to find our next India in the continent of Africa. Our next phase of growth will come from Africa, but we need to find the right partner in Africa for manufacturing and distribution after sale of our vehicles”. He also said that Suzuki has partnered with Toyota in Africa, and are currently working in about 26 countries.
“Toyota and CFAO have the largest automotive distribution network in Africa, and have the aim to contribute to further development in African countries” says Mr. Masafumi Yamashita from Toyota Corporation. He also added that “Our vision is with Africa and for Africa, and will partner with Suzuki for the future development of automobile industry in Africa”.
President Nana Akuffo Addo of Ghana welcome the delegation, expressed his appreciation and gave his approval to the initiative by Suzuki, Toyota and CFAO. He stated that the initiative by these companies is in line with his government’s plan to develop a vibrant automobile industry in Ghana. The President pledged Government support to the initiative when commenced. He also added that with the economy projected to grow by 7.9% this year, and with the peace and stability that Ghana enjoys, it is a very good decision by Suzuki, Toyota and CFAO to choose Ghana as one of the African countries to manufacture their cars.
He concluded that the initiative will be good to Ghanaian citizens and will create jobs and attract investors into the country, which will speed up the development in the country. President Nana Akuffo Addo added, that the 1.6 litre engine cars Suzuki produces, is the exact kind of cars that should have a very successful entry into the Ghanaian market.
