ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN FIRST LADIES AGAINST AIDs(OAFLA)
The gathering of the First Ladies from Africa happened recently in New York. These ladies are prominent women from the African continent. Some are Prime Ministers while others are First Ladies.
Organization of African First Ladies Against AIDs(OAFLA) met recently during the 73 rd United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Most of their discussions were on their strategic plan for 2019-2023.
In the yearn to combat some health challenges in the diaspora, About 50 Women from different walks of life were present to grace the occasion.
Their aim was to discuss and work tirelessly on challenging health issues and how to resolve them to better lives Of girls and women in Africa. These goals are also part of the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).It is important to acknowledge that their plans and it’s execution are effective then enormous changes back in their home Countries, and their sacrifices are worth applauding.
Every single Organization have goals which drive their actions. Some of the goals of OAFLA are;
➢ To fight HIV/ AIDS
➢ To eradicate Cervical Cancer
➢ To combat Neonatal Cancer
➢ To stop Child Marriage.
During their most current meeting, issues have risen up concerning the need to consider adding more health related challenges. To consider this discussion, more topics relating to gender equality and women and Youth Empowerment were chosen.
In as much as they have faced several challenges as an organization, some key achievements were;
➢ The ability to reduce infant and Maternal mortality
➢ Advocacy for cancer and other health challenging situation.
➢ Contributing towards controlling cervical cancer.
OAFLA’s main focus is to achieve a developed Africa with healthy and empowered youth, women and children .
