Local designers has strong showing at African Fashion Week in London
PRESS RELEASE – Meme bete Ltd. in a short space of time has become synonymous with local fashion.
The company has indeed put St. Lucian Fashion on the map by participating in fashion shows across the region and the US. It is no surprise then that the enthusiastic creative director wowed the crowd at this year’s African Fashion Week London, held on September 9th and 10th 2016.
Created by Ronke Ademiluyi, Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) is Europe’s largest catwalk event of African and African-inspired design. A collaborative catwalk and exhibition, highlighting the industry’s established and emerged designers, AFWL is at the forefront of capturing the surge of the African inspired trends in the fashion industry. The annual event aims to celebrate the work of African and African inspired designers in the UK and worldwide.
“I really wanted my line to be memorable as this was my first European Fashion Show”, says Taribba do Nascimento of meme bete… Ltd. The showcase featured her signature line of Leather and African print bags but also debuted her new line of men’s swimwear call the Jonny Shorts. The showing left a lasting impression on audiences and press alike, which led to a feature in powerhouse Fashion Magazine Elle Magazine. meme bete’s participation in the fashion show was funded by the 10th Regional EDF through the OECS Competitive Business Unit.
